Community Involvement

|
Jean's passion has always been to help others, especially in the area of education. She served for two years as the Director of Impacting Asian Communities for Tomorrow (ImpACT), where she planned and supervised various academic enrichment programs and field trips for under-privileged Asian youth and elementary school students in inner-city
Oakland.

At
Taylor
Middle School (Go, Bulldogs!) in
Millbrae, Jean served as the PTA Volunteer Coordinator, Newsletter Editor, and Communications Chair, and she is serving as the Executive Vice President of the Taylor PTA for 2008-9. In addition, she participated as a member of
Taylor's School Site Council.
Jean is also an active member of the Mills High School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), and served as the Secretary for the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Parents Group for the
San Mateo
Unified
High
School District (2006-2008). In addition, she volunteers several mornings a week as an accompanist for the Mills High Choir. |

Jean has two daughters, ages 13 and 16, and she loves spending time with them, joking around, singing, and talking about the latest books they're reading.
Although Korean by descent, Jean and her family lived, studied and worked in
Beijing,
China for four years. Despite the traffic, pollution, and the language barrier, they developed a fondness for the people there and hope to go there again in the future.
Jean enjoys learning about different languages and cultures. In addition to proficiency in Korean, she has studied (though woefully not mastered) Mandarin, Spanish, German, Japanese, and even some Greek!
ODD FACT: Jean LOVES Excel spreadsheets and uses them whenever possible, whether or not the situation calls for it. If you ever feel the need for more organization in your life, feel free to ask her to make one for you. | | |
